purposefully engaged in global mission

Our Story

Pioneers was founded in 1979 by Ted and Peggy Fletcher. At that time, there were only three missionaries and one sending base. Today there are eight sending bases and over 1800 members on 188 teams in 84 countries.

Pioneers Canada was birthed out of a merger with World Outreach Fellowship in 1994. WOF had served the Canadian church since 1982 in sending short-term teams through SPRINT and in sending long-term workers primarily to unreached areas of Latin America.

In Acts 13, the Holy Spirit and the church at Antioch sent Saul and Barnabas to the most needy people of their generation. Similarly today the Lord is touching the hearts of many Canadian individuals and churches to be involved in His global purpose. The rapid growth of Pioneers Canada in the last few years is just one small indicator. And like Saul and Barnabas, these people are by faith accepting His leading to some of the most difficult and challenging areas of our world. This type of work requires teamwork, innovation and creativity, prayer, and perseverance. Pioneering work is not easy but it is necessary.
