Giving FAQ

All donations for missionary support, projects or strategic priorities are tax-deductible and are considered to be under the jurisdiction and control of Pioneers Canada according to Canada Revenue Agency. Personal gifts, as in those for Christmas or birthdays of our workers, are not eligible for a receipt but will be passed along to our workers in accordance with CRA guidelines.

Yes, Pioneers currently assesses a 2.5% convenience fee on all credit donations; however, you can now opt to cover this additional charge by checking the Add credit card processing fees to my donation box on the online giving form. The remainder of your donation is then applied toward the missionary or project account you have designated.

Yes, Pioneers Canada is able to receive donations toward Pioneers workers that serve or are sent out from affiliate bases provided that Pioneers Canada has approved their ministry and there is an established agreement between the affiliated partner. Pioneers will then issue you a Canadian tax receipt and transfer the amount of your donation to our overseas affiliate with the designated purpose of supporting the ministry of that worker.

Yes, Pioneers accepts post-dated cheques. The cheques are filed and held until the corresponding due date at which time they are banked with the next scheduled deposit.

Yes you can.  The Strategic Priorities Fund (SPF) allows us to accomplish our mission around the world by supporting our core functions, which include recruiting, training, sending and sustaining missionaries. The SPF also supports special initiatives and campaigns as they emerge, such as security for our workers and relief efforts for disaster victims.

Administration fees are assessed on most donations given to Pioneers with the exception of our Strategic Priorities Fund.  All donations toward missionary support or projects are assessed a 10% fee.  Emergency relief donations however are assessed only a 3% fee. The fees for donations to projects vary.

Unfortunately no, the administration fees assessed to missionary and project accounts cover only a portion of our operating expenses and initiatives. To ensure maximum support of our field missionaries, Pioneers Canada office staff also raise support for their salaries. Therefore, we rely on the Lord to cover the remaining shortfall from other sources like your giving to the Strategic Priorities Fund. To make a contribution and assist Pioneers Canada directly, please consider making a donation and designating it toward “Strategic Priorities.”

As a faith-based mission our personnel depend on the Lord for their ministry support; this includes both home staff and field workers. Upon appointment with Pioneers each member is deputized by the ministry and required to engage in partnership development by teaming up with churches and individuals. Through these partnerships the worker establishes their prayer team and financial ministry supporters. Once they begin full time service with Pioneers each worker receives a set salary each month that is determined by Pioneers. The workers' ministry budgets are put together in accordance with standards of living in their part of the world, while taking into account personal family needs.

To give a personal gift to a worker or their family, please make out a separate cheque, payable to Pioneers, and clearly indicate in your correspondence that it is a “personal gift.” (i.e. Birthday or Christmas gift). Pioneers will pass along your gift, up to $500/person/year, directly to them. Personal gifts are not eligible for a charitable receipt.

Any changes in the amount or designation of your gift must be made in writing. You can do this via email to finance@pioneers.ca, by fax to Pioneers Canada at 1-519-268-2787 or by mail to Pioneers Canada, Attn: Finance Dept., 51 Byron Avenue, Dorchester, ON N0L 1G2.

Each year the Board of Directors of Pioneers requires our ministry to undergo an independent audit, by independent certified public accountants. .  You can view the latest audited financials (under Giving Help) or request a copy by calling our office at 519-268-8778.  In addition, the Pioneers Board provides regular oversight by means of full board meetings at minimum twice per year. The Finance and Executive sub-committees also convene in between the full board meetings.
